This two-man expedition planned to make attempts on Dih Sar (6207m) and Yazpurz Peak (6008m). Unfortunately, as they approached the Dih Dur valley via the Joshi pass, Oates developed altitude sickness and elected to return to Shimshal. After the porters had deposited their gear at the Joshi Pass, Thompson chose to remain in the hope that Oates would return in the coming days. While by himself, Thompson climbed a portion of the south ridge of Shar Izat Peak, reaching two tops that do not appear to have previously been visited. Oates subsequently communicated that he would not be returning from Shimshal and porters were arranged to dismantle camp, ending the expedition.
