The expedition set out to explore the new routing potential on the south face of Batian and the east face of Nelion. Unfortunately, time and conditions prevented any attempt, though the south face of Batian was scouted to ascertain future potential. Instead ascents were made of both peaks by the standard routes, with the opportunity being taken to install a plaque to Ian Howell at the summit bivi and to scatter his ashes there. Ian had built the bivi in 1970 and this was thought to be a fitting place to honour his memory.
